This panel explores how mental health stigma across healthcare negatively affects both healthcare workers and service users, and the power of immersive experiences to bridge the empathy gap; transforming the culture of wellbeing institutions and improving patient outcomes.

Sean Carroll
At Anagram, Sean leads on Inside Mental Health, a new immersive, empathetic training tool, developed with healthcare professionals for healthcare professionals. Inside Mental Health adapts Anagram’s award winning Playing with Reality collection to innovatively bring stories of those with lived experience of mental health conditions to the centre of the healthcare sector.
Sarah Ticho
Sarah Ticho is an award-winning artist, curator, and entrepreneur at the intersection of immersive storytelling and mental health. She is the creator of SOUL PAINT which has received accolades including the SXSW XR Special Jury Prize and Best Health and Wellness at The Games for Change Awards 2024. As co-director of the XR Health Alliance, Sarah champions the equitable adoption of XR in healthcare.
Ivan Phelan
Ivan Phelan, Director of the Impact VR Lab, is a Principal Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University. Impact VR’s systems have supported unmet needs in healthcare such as prosthetic training, pain distraction, limb rehabilitation, Dysphagia, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Social Anxiety. These immersive solutions have shown promise in enhancing the quality of life for patients and advancing healthcare practices.
